University broke my brain...
I was just reading a nice story when something totally made me snap out of it:
Bessa had the look of an air spirit, transformed out of her clothing from gangly, pale and too thin to elegant, lithe and otherworldly. Her skin was translucent, dusted with light freckles like gold dust in places, and at her pulse points the fine blue lines of her veins were visible beneath the skin.

Veins. Don't. Have. Pulse. Thankyouverymuch!

Man hätte doch schreiben können: "Her skin was translucent, dusted with light freckles like gold dust in places, the blue shimmer of her veins running close to the skin adorning her long limbs like a very fine embroidery, fine strands that joined together and became thicker the closer they carried her lifeforce to her heart again."
